This band was the birth, nurturing, and pre-mortem of Crystal Mess.
2008-2011

Harlequin Baby was a 4 piece electroclash/bedroom pop band based out of Santa Cruz. We played shows mostly in our living room at the well-loved punk house known as 215 Storey. Our sister bands were Nursery, Shroedipus Rex, Nessie and Her Beard, and 2001.

Other characters we came across that i'd like to "thank" were Mr. Sprinkles (santa cruz promoter man, always hip), shitty bros in shitty alt bands who wanted to fuck us because we were cute girls, the asshole on acid who told Crystal she shouldn't sing, that girl who pretended she was an airplane when we played dollhouse crimes at that shitty fest thing, the guy that tripped over our power cable at that shitty fest thing and fucked our set up, the orange cougar who heckled us in Monterey, the guy who owned a venue in monterey who loved us and paid us $100 but got kinda aggro toward our sister band which was not chill, hippie bros getting mad at us for playing our music too loud, our ex-landlord who said that our band was "emotionally insincere", Hana's dad getting emotional to our set at the Piano Fight thing, all the people on myspace who yelled at us for our band name being insensitive, Jenna for always being supportive but deep down being jealous that duck and i were doing something together she wasn't a part of, marky poo for being my boyfriend, and Everyone else LOVE U GUYZ!!!!!

We were baby feminists at the time, well at least I was, so a lot of these songs are reflective of that kind of angst. I uploaded this album for friends who were there for it all, it's also maybe a remedy for nostalgia.
